In a World Moving a Little Too Fast
Studio Art /Photography Major
In a modern world where the internet and social media has increased the speed in which time seems to pass us by, it is important to take a second to stop, take a moment, and appreciate life as it is. Photography is a medium that allows us to freeze a moment in time and gives us the ability to go back to relive that moment whenever we’d like. A recent trip to New York City with close friends couldn’t have come with better timing, as the Coronavirus pandemic was closing the world around us, it was an extraordinary time to document the last time life was indeed ‘normal’. These photos were created with no preconceived plan, but just a natural reaction to create something when my mind told me to stop, take a moment and appreciate.
Currently I’m going through a period of creative, mental, and inspirational soul searching. For this project I used my iPhone and a medium format camera loaded with Kodak Portra 400 film. Through this body of work, I am exploring my growing understanding of color and how to organize it in a composition. With the use of vibrant color pop, coupled by my organized mess in my head that subconsciously finds its way into my work, I have structured together 8 diptychs that best illustrate what I will mold my art style into.
