Emma Rowe: Movement

Movement

May 3 - May 7, 2021

I have been working with clay since my freshman year of high school. I started with every hand-building and sculpture class in order to qualify to take a wheel throwing class. My ceramics teacher, Ms. Papuga, taught me to fall in love with pottery and I am forever thankful for her. What interested me most about wheel throwing was the movement of the clay. How you could start with just a small amount of what is basically dirt and create something beautiful and elegant. I think that is what attracts me to pottery the most, the elegance that can be created out of dirt and glass. My pieces reflect my initial love and interest in the art. I focus a lot on form and the process of putting pieces together, I love the endless possibilities that can be created. My show reflects my growth as a potter throughout the years. I began with focusing on basic forms like small bowls and vases. I grew into creating much larger forms and experimenting with slip and glaze patterns.
