Repressive Interiors

Repressive Interiors, an MFA Exhibition by Autumn Wertz

April 8th - 12th, 2019

“The ease and availability of digital news sources and social media force politics into what would otherwise be a private space. Repressive Interiors illustrates a relationship between American women, contemporary politics, and the position of electronic media within interior spaces.

A combination of collage painting and installation media allow this exhibition to simulate how repressive the current state of politics can be on a woman, presenting the concepts of surveillance, voyeurism, administrative policy and accountability, illustrations are informed by personal experience and research conducted with the support of a SPARC Grant awarded by the University of South Carolina.”
